Johnny Pilgrim started working for NCIA in 1992 as a residential
counselor. Since that time he has been promoted to several positions,
including lead counselor, house manager, and to his current position
where he oversees the day-to-day supervision of several residential
units. Johnny came into this field looking for a job, but found
a career that he really enjoys. He says the best part about his
position is working with our clients and seeing them make progress
and move forward in their lives.
Johnny’s simple philosophy is to try to relate to the residents
“from the ground level, and to just have compassion.”
He tells his clients to always move forward, a little step at a
time. Most importantly, he always gives them lots of love, but also
lets them know he has a job to do, and that is to keep them moving
forward and making progress.”
Professionally speaking: “This is such a
rewarding job. It can be hard work and you’ll stay busy, but
all of these guys and gals are so special, seeing their progress
is such a joy.”
Personally speaking: “Everybody has a calling
in life and mine is helping people. It’s so rewarding for
me to help people and give back, and help turn someone’s life
around.”
