Youth in Transition School
 
Academic Programs & Curriculum

The Youth in Transition School provides a quality, all encompassing, educational program dedicated to addressing the needs of diverse learners. It is through this program that students develop the content knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies that will assist them in reaching their full potential as life-long learners and productive citizens. Through this comprehensive program, children and youth with disabilities have access to the appropriate services and educational opportunities to which they are entitled under federal and state laws.


Middle School

The Youth in Transition School’s elementary school program serves grades six to eight. Placement in classes is based on academic skill levels. The curriculum is based on the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum and covers five major subject areas: language arts, math, science, social studies, and health. Students may also rotate through special subject areas, such as art and physical education. This program also includes the option for vocational coursework in our vocational program.


High School

In accordance with local, state, and federal laws the Youth in Transition School provides students will core and elective academic programming that is intended to meet the requirements of a high school diploma. The academic subject material is based on local school systems’ curricula, as well as the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum. Through the successful completion of these requirements, as well as adequate demonstration of academic competencies learned throughout their high school years (passing of Maryland High School Assessments) students will be awarded a high school diploma. Included in this program are various vocational trades intended to produce post secondary success and positive outcomes after the student has exited the program.
