Youth in Transition School

Therapeutic Services

The NCIA Youth in Transition School provides psychological services for students who need intensive support and assistance. Our professional staff works directly with the student to implement the goals and objectives of each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP). A licensed psychologist and clinical social workers provide our specialized counseling services.

Services include anger management, sexual offender treatment, violence prevention, alcohol and drug education, and peer mediation and conflict resolution.

The NCIA Youth in Transition School employs licensed social workers and a certified guidance counselor to provide individual, group and family therapy, behavior management, counseling, and crisis management intervention. NCIA also employs a licensed psychiatrist whose services can be accessed by the school. This psychiatrist is located at the NCIA Augustus Institute for Mental Health, 1/4 mile from the school and is on an on-call status.

Creative Arts

The Creative Arts program provides our students with an opportunity to be creative and expressive. This program helps students to express their feelings and creative talents through a variety of media, including paint, clay, video, and music. Future plans for the program include the addition of drama and photography to our offerings. All students are welcome to participate in the Creative Arts program and student work is often displayed around the school in various classrooms and offices.

Nursing Services

All students' medical records and profiles are housed in the nursing service office. Student's physical assessments are completed by a Registered Nurse. The nurse has no direct jurisdiction over provision of comprehensive medical services. The school’s nurse reviews the student’s medical records and schedules all required screenings and evaluations during the student’s enrollment. The nurse also provides for any required medications and first-aid services. The nurse is an important member of the school’s intake and review team.

Speech Language Pathologist

A master's level speech-language therapist implements IEP goals and objectives for those students who need this related service.
