Meet Chris – Chris knew firsthand how difficult it could be to find stable, livable-wage employment with a justice-involved background. In addition to this struggle, he realized he needed the certifications and skills many employers desired. Chris turned to NCIA’s Vocational Training Center and enrolled in the HVAC program.
After 17 weeks of hard work, Chris graduated with all his HVAC certifications. Along the way, he found more than just training—he found real support. He credits the NCIA staff for providing guidance, encouragement, and practical resources that helped him succeed, including access to an expungement clinic to reduce the impact of his background during job searches.
Today, Chris is a Maintenance Technician at InterSolutions, earning $17 an hour and steadily moving toward his goals. His message to others who may be facing similar obstacles is simple: “Don’t give up on yourself or your dreams. Keep setting new goals and working towards achieving them.”
