Julian was working in food service when an unexpected turn of events left him unemployed—his contracts were suddenly pulled, and he found himself searching for a new direction. Around that time, he learned about NCIA and had an opportunity to build something more stable for his future.
Julian enrolled in NCIA’s Vocational Training Center, where he joined the HVAC program. “Now I have tools and a trade that no one can take from me,” he shared, reflecting on the decision that changed his life.
However, the road to steady employment wasn’t easy. Julian, who has a history of justice involvement, faced multiple setbacks during his job search. Job offers were rescinded after background checks.
With perseverance and support from NCIA, Julian pushed forward. Today, he’s proudly working as an HVAC Mechanic at LKM Mechanical, earning $22 an hour. “It’s a big weight off my shoulders,” he said. “I have a skill I can use to provide for my family. I felt like at NCIA, the help was real and the staff were genuine.”
